Dr Vamvakopoulos, an academic clinician by training, was appointed as Consultant and Clinical Specialist Service Lead at the Manx Centre for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in January 2021. His clinical practice encompasses all aspects of Endocrinology, with subspecialist interests in endocrine autoimmunity (type 1 diabetes, autoimmune thyroid disorders, primary adrenal insufficiency etc); management of diabetic foot complications; endocrine education; and interventional endocrinology (eg ultrasound-guided thyroid procedures). He participates in the Internal Medicine on-call rota at Noble's Hospital, where he has a particular interest in medical disorders during pregnancy. His research activity largely reflects his clinical interests. Dr Vamvakopoulos originally trained and worked as a biomedical scientist, then as an research immunologist. He qualified and completed his general medical and higher specialist training, as well as a postgraduate degree in Medical Education, in Birmingham, UK. His first substantive NHS consultant post was at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, where he was Clinical Lead for the Inpatient Diabetes Service.
