Jack Galliford, or "Dr G" as I call him, is a total G. He has a can-do, positive mental attitude and is always, always on the side of his patient. I feel as though he completely understands the challenges that someone with a dual diagnosis - in my case bipolar disorder and polycystic kidney disease with resulting vascular complications - and is adept at pulling apart the various threads of whichever knotty problem is in front of him until it has gone away. As soon as he joined the team in Bristol he took me under his wing, and we immediately formed a strong therapeutic bond. Now that I am a dialysis patient I don't get to see him as often as I'd like, but I suppose it's a good sign that he is so busy nowadays. His bedside manner is wicked. He is extremely funny and has little time for the 'morons in charge', so he is a bit of a rebel. It takes one to know one, I guess. He, along with psych liaison, was the main impetus behind my relenting and finally agreeing to go on dialysis in the first place. I was having none of it, but he said, and I will never forget this: "Not dialysing will lead to a 'suboptimal clinical outcome' [death]. We would rather you stick around. We kind of like you." He often wears several hats at once - counsellor, social worker, advocate, teacher, healer - while never forgetting the person surrounding the transplanted organ. Like I said, a total G.

Dr Jack Galliford has continued to provide great renal care for me during the past ten years of transplantation. He has a genuine will to care for all and his particular interest in immunology has extended the survival of my renal transplant. He has, on many occasions, sat with me to explain very clearly, what I can expect. At the same time has been able to work with me in a partnership to make decisions relating to my health care plan. He is one of my inspirations and person I can depend on when I need help.

A great consultant who cares about every patient reassuring them of the positives and explaining the negatives at great length. Very amiable and brilliant at his job with exceptional knowledge of his chosen field.

Dr Galliford has been my consultant since 2009 when I had a antibody miss match transplant. He has first class medical skills and is a real leader in this field. He has managed to keep my renal function good and stable through his thorough and careful management of my renal function despite my many other illnesses along the way. I would have no hesitation is recommending him as I doubt you would be able to find any better consultant in the UK.
