Dr Ivan David

On the 9th October 2017 I missed the last step on the way into work and fell using my hand to save me I in fact caused extreme trauma to my hand and wrist. I was taken to Grantham Hospital where I needed surgery to save my hand and wrist. Dr Ivan David was appointed as my anaesthetist. Dr Davis's manner, empathy and honesty was extremely calming, allowing me and my husband to ask questions or ask for clarification of what was being said. He was totally truthful and honest as there were definite risks on top of the normal risks surgery brings, however he told us about these risks in a manner that did not increase fear and anxiety but instilled trust and hope for a positive outcome to my surgery. Once in the anaesthetic room Dr David was kind, calming and respectful making sure I understood everything that was happening and he was doing. The staff were totally engaged with him as he was a man who they respected and trusted giving a wonderful positive experience to me as the patient knowing I was in good hands. Dr David's working relationship with my consultant surgeon was again positive and brought about a extremely good patient outcome. The next morning following my operation Dr David came to see me on HDU to make sure I was doing well. The decision to undertake his role in my care at Grantham cannot have been an easy one for him due to the risks yet he also knew further delays would have resulted in me losing my limb. The trust and professional knowledge and working relationship Dr David and my consultant had allowed the surgery to take place and save my limb. I will be forever in his debt. Thank God our town hospital has the gifted Dr David and long may he stay as I know the people who use the hospital are in safe hands.
