I am delighted to be able to comment on this fantastic doctor. I was so impressed with her knowledge and her professional and humerous manner was quite unique and refreshing- asking questions and retrieving necessary information in a concise and thorough way and explaining the symptoms and treatment very clearly with a test to check my understanding! ( I also appreciated the tips for navigating the bloods/pharmacy and x-rays too - everything went like clockwork and I had no waiting around following her order of events!). I left feeling excited and positive and, having been referred through the system for almost 2 years, I feel I have at last reached the person with a clear understanding and a plan of action and consider myself extremely fortunate to be in such capable hands! I am still smiling days after the consultation and cannot wait to begin my medication and hopefully start to see things beginning to improve.

She was objective, yet caring. She listened, she knew all the right questions to ask, and what to analyse to give precise diagnosis. She paused me when I wanted to speak to much, and yet she listened to all my concerns and questions at the end of the consultantion. She even helped understand how to get better care for my conditions, which I'm guessing most people don't know. Been living with hypermobility all my life, and fibromyalgia for more than 6 years, and no doctor was ever able to match all the symptoms - to be fair, it's pretty hard to find out. But she was able to realise it without any biased opinion, and find the right aspects to look for. I'm not happy about my disease, but I feel finally free to be able to look for the right treatment without the fear of wrong doing. She was THAT kind of consultant, that finally comes with a breakthrough for you, that cares, and that do what needs to be done without treating you like a thing/robot/whatever. Highly recommend!

What an absolutely top class specialist and human being. I was seen by Dr Al-Shakarchi in 2014 at King's. She remains the ONLY Rheumy who actually asked loads of questions, listened, and tried to figure out what was causing my pain. She was curious, compassionate, kind and humourous - something I did not expect given the long assembly line of patients she was seeing. After she left King's my treatment dwindled to a full stop. You're a blessing. Long live your tribe!
