I had my surgery with Ioannis in December 2023 and have nothing but positive feedback on my experience. I was keen on meeting him in person for my initial consultation despite living in London; I brought my partner and we had a very detailed conversation and he took his time and answered all the million questions we had with a lot of patience and confidence. I then had to delay the date of the actual surgery because of other health issues, but Ioannis was understanding and gave me a new date based on our discussions around surgery recovery. On the day of the surgery, we arrived at around 6.45 and Ioannis was the first to say hello, gave us instructions for the day, and put us both at ease with any anxiety or question we had. He always remains calm and confident and I really needed that on the day. The team at the hospital were great and supportive throughout the day - there were lots of different people from the team coming into the room pre op. And then we just waited until about 13.00 when another nurse picked me up, asked more questions and then helped me get settled in the theatre with the anaesthetist prepping me to get under while making jokes - I am still smiling thinking about those moments. The surgery took about 2h and when I woke up I felt really cold, so the nurse started to blow hot air under my blanket (I mention this because it felt like heaven). Ioannis came to check on me after waking up and said he was very happy with the results and he didn't have to join the scars in the middle, which I was really pleased to hear. I kept being really slow and when the nurses brought me drinks and food, eating felt like the hardest thing to do and it took me ages to finish, but they were very patient and let me take my time. I still felt quite dizzy for a long time and the nurses and Ioannis kept an eye on me so that we were able to leave the hospital in the evening. Ioannis gave me his contact details so we could stay in touch in the next few weeks about any questions and updates on the recovery - I felt really reassured about this. In moments of panic, I messaged him and he would always message back just a couple of minutes later. The recovery from surgery went really fast, I didn't experience much pain at all and were able to be independent again quite quickly. The surgery made the recovery from my other health issues much worse, but we had anticipated and planned for that as much as possible. I am so amazed at the results of my chest - sometimes it feels so natural and normal (how I always felt in my body anyways) and sometimes I still can't believe the surgery actually happened. It has certainly changed the way I am relating to my body and how I show up in my life; I can't wait for all the ways the surgery has changed my life that I am yet to experience. I recently went on a holiday and stood in the sun for a moment (not very long as I am still only 4 months post op) and it was the first time that the sun kissed my bare chest, I am still feeling so nourished by that feeling. Thank you, Ioannis, and the whole hospital team! Good luck with your move to Athens! And I love your podcast.

From the beginning of my consultation, Mr Ntanos was fantastic. He told me that there wasn’t anything that would change his decision to offer me surgery following my referral, but that the discussion was for us both to be sure he would be able to give me the best possible treatment. I believe this man doesn’t sleep. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but he was always very quick to respond to emails or any general correspondence when I had questions or concerns and was very reassuring throughout the whole process. My consultation itself was late in the evening at my request and I was very grateful to be accommodated in that way. On the day of surgery, I was the second patient of three to have surgery with Mr Ntanos. Him, and all of the team at the Pines were fantastic, very friendly and helped put me at ease. I was grateful for how calm and relaxed everyone was as it was my first time undergoing surgery and with general anaesthetics. In terms of results, I had an uneven chest and I now look symmetrical for the first time since puberty. I’m very happy with my surgical results. Everything looks very natural, suits my body and I have been healing well with no complications (almost 4 weeks post op as I write). Although, as mentioned above if I did have any issues I’m confident that I would get a quick response and things would be resolved.

Had an amazing experience with Mr Ntanos from start to finish. I felt at ease, well informed and well cared for throughout the consult, pre and post op.

Ioannis was absolutely amazing with my care, as were all staff members at the hospital. I had my top surgery January 9th. All worries were completely alleviated by the professional but kind manner staff acted in. Ioaonnis consistently answered any questions I had leading up to the surgery and on the day. Staff were all absolutely lovely during my recovery on the day, and at my follow up appointment. Have honestly told so many people about how impressed I was with it all. Furthermore, my results are looking absolutely amazing, couldn't be more happy with Dr Ntanos's practice, care, and surgical ability. I have various disabilities including autism, ehlers-danlos, and POTs, and all of these were well taken into account. 100% recommend Ioannis.

I was terrified about getting surgery because I have had bad medical experiences and also I’m autistic. Mr Ntanos was aware of this and worked hard to put me at ease from my initial consultation with him through to having my dressings removed. I was very scared about having the IV put in, in theatre so he held my hand and chatted to me to distract me, it didn’t hurt at all and I barely noticed it. I received a high level of care and have had minimal pain and discomfort. I’m very happy with my results so far (only 4 weeks along) and with the support I received after leaving the hospital. Mr Ntanos literally saved my life and is an amazing ally. All the staff were respectful of my pronouns and gender. Very happy

I had surgery on the 24th January 2024 & the whole experience was golden. After a very sleepless night but still looking forward & optimistic for the day I arrived a little earlier than my time of 6:45am, I got to sit in reception at the Pines hospital. I didn't sit too long before I was shown to the ward & room. The Night shift nurse was super nice and informative about everything she was doing before Dr Ntanos came by to do surgery Pen marks. Very straight forward with information previously discussed from my 1st consultation & that I understood everything. He's a kind and genuine doctor & any worries and queries he puts to ease. I was first on the list that day so before I knew it, the Nurses & Anaesthetic team were nice and kept your mind at ease while they got you prepped to go under before I knew it, I woke up in recovery and soon enough back in my room recovering. Dr Ntanos & nurses checked on me throughout the day, I was amazed barely two hours after I woke up. I was doing little walks around the room and admiring how flat I was while getting used to the new change but felt natural. There was a little confusion on if I was staying or leaving but was allowed to go as I was staying in a nearby hotel. We left just after 7pm. It's great that he allows patients to contact him about any queries while recovery. My local GP nurse was worried about a few popped stitches & nipples scabs while getting dressings removed after two weeks. I contacted Dr Ntanos with photos & got reassurance on how to deal with them. Overall I am super grateful for this lifetime changing experience & knew I did the right thing picking one of the best professional Surgeons & Assets to the Trans community. Definitely Recommend Dr Ntano’s for Top surgery!

I had Bilateral Mastectomy with Double Incisions Chest Wall Reconstruction and Free Nipple Grafts with Dr Ntanos on 16th January 2024. I can not fault my experience in any way, shape or form. I had never had surgery before, yet I did not experience a singular moment of anxiety or unease. Every staff member was lovely, easy to talk to, understanding, and had amazing bedside manner. Even the anaesthetists were lovely (they also have a very good fashion sense; clogs and a skull head scarf!) Going under was pretty pleasant in itself. Had a lovely conversation with an anaesthetist before being taken into theatre, he told me detail for detail everything that was going to happen once we walked into theatre, and I felt very at ease. I had a conversation with him and Ntanos about looking at too many cats on the internet, then how my mouth tasted funny, and then I woke up in recovery. I genuinely never felt the general anaesthetic needle go into my arm, I’ve had more painful blood tests. They are truly talented at their job and I could not emphasise enough that if you choose Ntanos, you are in the safest of hands. Ntanos and other nurses came to check on me several times through my stay, and were very good at ensuring I felt comfortable the entire time. I thought I would feel very uncomfortable and upset while Ntanos was drawing on my chest before the surgery, but we had a lovely conversation and it was over before I knew it. I cried tears of joy several times during my stay, and I could not be happier. Thank you to all of the Pines staff for such a beautiful life changing experience. I could not be happier. My one and only criticism; time management may not be the best. I was third on the list of four, and it also took a very long time to know if I was going to be sent home or not. It wasn’t until 23:30 that I was told I’d have to stay over night, which wasn’t ideal because my mother had a 6 hour drive the next day - and it isn’t uncommon for patients/parents to travel long distances to be there. My mother had been there for 17 hours before being able to leave to get some sleep. I think Ntanos needs to be allocated more days in theatre so that the chances of a day surgery are higher, and so Ntanos himself can relax a little. 4 surgeries in one day seems too much for anybody. Thank you so much to everybody for such amazing care, I could not be happier and I can’t wait to see my final results ❤️

I had top surgery from Ioannis Ntanos around a month ago. I was quite nervous as I had never had surgery before and my results were very important to me. Mr Ntanos was very friendly and made me feel a lot more comfortable. He gave me plenty of opportunities to ask questions and always seemed happy to answer. When I had my consultation I was still considering whether I wanted keyhole or double incision surgery and when we spoke about it I didn't feel that I was being led in either direction, he listened to my priorities, gave me more information and accepted my decision so I felt that I was in control and my feelings and concerns were respected. The surgery itself went well, I had no complications and have healed great so far. I am really happy with my experience and my results.

Mr Ntanos was amazing throughout my top surgery process. His calm and welcoming manner instantly put me at ease and made me feel super comfortable from the very start of my first consultation. He is professional and very knowledgeable about the whole trans experience. I am delighted with my surgery results and highly recommend him to anyone seeking top surgery.

A fantastic surgeon! I had my top surgery with him in November 2023. This was my first operation, so to say I was feeling nervous was an understatement. Ended up not being an issue, as Dr. Ntanos managed answer any of the questions I had before I even asked them! The procedure itself was very fast! I went into theatre just after 8am, and I was back in my room for 12pm. After that, Dr. Ntanos frequently visited me and made sure I was feeling okay. He’s always a delight to speak to, and really makes you feel at ease. I always felt I could talk openly and raise concerns if I had any throughout my journey. If you’re considering top surgery, I’d highly recommend Dr. Ntanos!
