Dr Sutherland is the worst doctor I have ever met, he's dismissive, arrogant and gaslighted me about test results that he thought I hadn't already seen! Pushed birth control on me after refusing to give me my other medication unless I took it (I can't have birth control) . Only seems to be there to tick boxes and get paid doesn't have any bedside manner and is always scruffy! I refuse to see him anymore even though he's apparently my doctor and I'm not the only one I know of who thinks this!

I find Dr Sutherland's off-handed comments to be greatly disheartening. Hearing your doctor say "If I could cure [that], I'd be on a yacht in Panama" is not really what I want to hear when in a great deal of pain. I find his manner, to be standoffish/dismissive and very sarcastic. I'd prefer to hear what he thinks should happen next, rather than asking me! However, Dr Sutherland is very efficient at referring you to other health professionals.

I find Dr ian Sutherlands bed side manner appalling, he doesn’t listen and either talks over you or when you are explaining symptoms he just says yeah or yes constantly, which is very off putting. He gives you the impression that he’s not really listening, and quite often very reluctant to prescribe antibiotics. It would help if he was to actually care and do follow ups instead of patients ( me) constantly having to contact him and listen to his lacklustre bed side manner. He often asks what do you want to happen next as if I’m the doctor not the patient?!!! If I knew, why would I be phoning the surgery? Time to start acting like a GP and not have an attitude with patients, I find his attention to identify the issue very sloppy and almost standoffish. A lot of the time he has diagnosed me with ibs which turns out want the case at all and the same for my partner when she was pregnant and had a water infection! I dread to think if I had a potential serious illness how would I fair! I’ve seen a lot of good drs at st james surgery and always hate when I personally have to deal with my own dr which is unfortunately dr ian Sutherland

I've been under Dr Sutherland's care for nearly a year now. I moved from Devon, leaving a terrible GP surgery behind that didn't understand my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which made me nervous about approaching GPs. However, he's always made me feel comfortable, listens to me, always gives me options for my treatment, asks my opinions on things, and, most importantly, has restored my trust in GPs. I spoke to him very recently about asthma; within just a couple of days, I felt better, and there is already a mid-term treatment plan. All GPs should be like Dr Sutherland. I would thoroughly recommend him to everyone!

I was puzzled by the other reviews posted, as I have seen Dr Sutherland a few times and have always found him to be attentive and supportive. In fact, I have an appointment this morning and, as I suffer from stress, this should be something I face with trepidation. However, I will go confident that I will get the same quality treatment as usual.
