This doctor needs to understand that elderly people need assistance when they are ill, and in extreme old age it is imperative to be unjudgemental and approachable. It is a small village, and many people of advanced years wish to maintain their independence by staying in their homes, and not going into residential care. Therefore, time put aside to visit them as patients at home would enhance the level of trust they have in the service. On a recent episode where the patient called an ambulance, fearful of the death of her elderly husband, the paramedic telephoned the surgery with a very poor response from this doctor, who was flippant with his remarks. On more than one occasion, visiting paramedics have ‘rolled their eyes’ when the mention of this surgery has been made. This doctor needs to work to restore confidence in the elderly people he administers to, who far too often place the strain on the ambulance service, as they feel this is the only option they have when they need medical attention.

Thanks to Dr Pidgeon he identified my condition straight away which then led me to get immediate treatment at the hospital in Worthing. I needed to have a pacemaker and Dr Pidgeon immediately contacted the hospital and arranged for me to be admitted and the same day I had my pacemaker fitted.

Dr Pidgeon really listens, understands and where he can, empathises so that the responses are very personal to me as the patient and not generic. He has always offered excellent advice and suggestions relevant to my own and my family's circumstances. Sometimes the advice is in place of a prescription when he doesn't deem it necessary, for which I respect him even more, as it is when he's prepared to tell me what I don't really want to hear and yet I know he is correct. As a family we feel very lucky to have him as our GP.

Excellent GP, skilled at listening and does his best to prescribe care and treatment available under the NHS.
