I met Dr Deeney very recently for the first time and feel utterly compelled to write a review. Needless to say I was given 1st class service by a 1st class consultant! I am a 46 yr old female and was diagnosed with an inflammatory bowel disease 20 years ago. Over that time, I have met many snooty gastroenterologists who haven't given me the time of day BUT this is the very first time, I have met a gastroenterologist who has been kind, thorough, empathetic, patient, compassionate and taken the time to listen to me. She explained my biopsy results thoroughly and provided me with a huge level of reassurance. Due to my family history of bowel cancer, she also suggested putting me on the bowel screening programme. I requested to have my bowel prep changed which she was happy to do. She also wanted to do a full set of blood tests and then introduced me to the IBD nurse practitioner who was equally lovely and for the first time I received a dedicated IBD telephone number to call if I had any concerns/worries. She lastly issued me a prescription in case any symptoms came back. I thanked her in person for being so fantastic and am very happy to provide some written feedback too. I left the hospital feeling rather emotional as this is the first time I have felt really looked after and taken care of. Many people are quick to complain about the NHS, but let's remember to give praise to those health care professionals who give their utmost in often challenging circumstances. A huge thank you Dr Deeney, you are an absolute credit to your profession. Your approach is spot on and I am so pleased you have been allocated to me. I hope you stick around at Queen's hospital because you really are the best! Xx
