When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last month, I felt fortunate to be wrapped in the care of Glenfield's Breast Care Unit and Mr Khout. From the beginning Mr Khout gave me reassurance and confidence, and he cared a great deal about my feelings in every aspect of my operation, reconstruction and recovery. He gives his time, listens and also is a brilliant surgeon! Thank you, NRC.

I met Mr Khout just three weeks ago after finding a small lump on my right breast . Whilst the lump was benign and despite Mr Khout's advise to avoid the stress and risks associated with surgery, today he went ahead and operated on me and removed it. Mr Khout was extremely thorough in his assessment of me and during the time I spent with him I felt completely at ease and reassured . Thank you for doing this operation and taking the time to listen. I fully appreciate that time is precious and there are people in far worse situations than me .

In October 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer so I'm sure you can image my shock and fear as this felt the worse time of my life. However, from the moment I met my Consultant, Mr Khout, at the Breast Care Centre Glenfield Hospital, I trusted him. It felt as if I had joined him and his team and with their support I never once felt alone. Mr Khout calmly and clearly explained my situation, always checking that I understood what was being said and giving me time to ask questions. I’m not sure I made much sense in what felt like a separate world to my normal daily life but he patiently explained everything in stages that I could cope with, whilst outlining my full treatment plan. My treatment was a single mastectomy, left side, with reconstruction in the same operation. As he explained all the options and choices to me I quickly realised that he cared about the way I would look and feel in the weeks, months and years ahead. I appreciated that he was treating the cancer and also looking after all of me. His knowledge, skill and expertise made this journey possible and my family, friends and work colleagues are amazed at the determination and positive attitude he gave me by helping me to learn about my condition, about the treatment options and the various stages along this journey. Despite the number of patients at each busy clinic Mr Khout’s dedication to all his patients and how he remembers each of us as individuals is fantastic. Small acts of kindness mean so much especially in a situation like this; such as remembering previous conversations, sharing a sense of humour and chatting with me before we went into theatre. My successful journey through cancer was made possible by the amazing skill, expertise, care and kindness from everyone at the hospital; especially Mr Khout. He supported me all the way and gave me a future to enjoy. Thank you, Julie
