Written by a patient at Abbey Road Health Centre
27th August 2008

I have been with this surgery and GP for nearly a year now. I came to England when I was a few months pregnant and registered with this surgery as it had more GP's than other surgeries in my area. I have met this doctor earlier and always felt that her attention span wavered after a point. She was nice but scatty during our first few meetings. However she was not all that patient when I went for my post-natal check-up, although she was very good with my baby daughter. I was made to feel as though she was doing me a favour by listening to me. She was quite impatient and the surgery had lost my post-natal results and bloodwork as well as incorrectly updated my details in their system, even details pertaining to type of delivery, date of my daughter's birth, etc... When I expressed my concern, she just brushed it aside and stated that it happened and would be taken care of. I was quite appalled that she didn't seem too concerned by what had happened. I was and am also very disturbed by the care or the lack of it, as evidenced, right through my pregnancy and post-delivery. I had a C-section and was in a lot of pain when I went for my check-up and felt that she was quite inconsiderate of my pain and my wanting to clarify a few things. In light of the wrong details being entered in their database, I felt that a proper apology was in order. But, I am not at all surprised that this was the way she chose to handle it. Though she assured me that I had every right to clariy any doubts I had, I was informed that she had other patients to attend to after barely 15 minutes with her during my post-natal review. She did treat me like a child after a point when I had questions about contraceptives. I am extremely distressed at this lack of apparent interest in a patient. This borough(Newham) is highly populated and the doctors do face a paucity of time attending to patients. I was also informed by a midwife who came home for a check-up after my delivery that this doctor was good with patients! This leads me to believe that their standards for good care is not necessarily high.
