We love Dr Gemma, she not only listens and makes time for her patients she'll go to lengths to explain what's needed and you don't feel she's rushing. She will also be tough if she needs to be and say it like it is and I think this honest and down to earth approach is a real benefit.

Gemma is a fantastic support to teenagers with cancer. She is brilliant at speaking clearly and honestly in terms they can understand without condescension. She has endless patience and will repeat information as much as necessary while the patient is coming to terms with their situation. She empowers patients to become involved in decision-making about their care and she takes a 360 degree view of a situation which is not confined to the purely physical. She can be highly commended for working also with a patient's psychological, emotional and social needs. Gemma has a relaxed and friendly style even when it is obvious how busy her workload often is. We consider ourselves fortunate to be in her care and know that we are in safe hands.

Dr Barnard is an asset to the team and an absolute pleasure to work with. She goes the extra mile for all of her patients and inspires others to do the same. I would highly recommend Dr Barnard as a team leader and clinical teacher.

Gemma is wonderful, she gives both the patients and relatives time to talk with her. She will explain things to the patients and relatives in a way that is easy to understand. She has a very approachable manner and has been a great support to both my daughter and I whilst on the TYA unit. Gemma and Katherine make a fabulous partnership on the unit and have helped make our stay more manageable. The one thing I love about Gemma are her facial expressions!!!

Gemma is awesome! She is good at explaining things, has a lovely friendly nature and won't give you false hope. She listens to what I have to say and will get to know her patients. She has a good sense of humour and works well with Katherine Rostami; they make a wonderful team on the TYA unit.
