Dr Francis Akor was truly amazing when my daughter was brought into PAU at Darent Valley Hospital. The ward was overwhelmed with patients, even to the extent that they were trying to source more chairs and places for people to sit, but the time and attention Francis gave us made us feel like we were the only patients in his care and did everything he could to ensure she received the right treatment. He continued to have a professional and caring attitude despite being run off his feet and working through his lunch break. It was a very worrying time having my newborn brought into hospital but I honestly cannot thank Mr Akor enough. I did also email the hospital directly thanking him for everything and am pleased I have an opportunity to provide more feedback. Dr Francis Akor is a huge asset to the health care service and believe he should be recognised for this.

Dr Francis Akor was superb when I came into pediatrics with my 4wk old daughter. As a new parent, he quickly reassured me that we are in the best place and did the right thing in coming into ane. Dr Akor made me feel at ease and provided great care through the early hours of my daughters admission. Dr Akor was thorough, diligent and made prompt decisions which helped improve my daughters condition. He answered all my questions, kept me well informed and made our recovery pathway clear. Can’t thank him enough. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the two nurses who made me feel like an inadequate mum on my arrival at triage,, i didn’t make this known at the time to Dr Akor since we were otherwise preoccupied with my daughter. I would like to make it known that the comments “you didn’t bring her in earlier” and “is she actually okay?” Whilst looking at her breathing. We’re not well received and made me cry while I returned to the waiting room. They were both discussing their pending teabreak and their arrangements, which I do not think were professional. I have not been able to get this off my mind but know I did the right thing by my daughter, Dr Akor reassured me. This was particularly hard, given that I was in hospital with my baby alone without my husband. Very tough and made worse by their comments.

Dr Francis Akor was attentive and listened. He was gentle and caring with our son and took care to make him and us comfortable as he attended to him. He clearly was conscious of our concerns as to what may be wrong and took the time to do his examinations and arrange for tests, all the while communicating with us. This gave us confidence that our son was being looked after by someone that was caring as well as knowledgeable and skilled.

When my son was born at 25 weeks gestation Francis was present at his birth and intubated him after delivery. He is calm, quick thinking and professional. He has been on the journey with me throughout NICU and has always given honest and factual information. He made me feel reassured that the best care was being given to my son and always answered questions clearly.
