I was advised to completely come off pain medication with no suggestion for X-rays to an arthritic joint. I did not agree with his advice and was told I was no longer invited to the pain clinic and to find another hospital, should I wish for further advice. I was always polite and respectful. I was, shortly afterwards, seen by a physio from another department who suggested I should have the joint xrayed and the results were almost complete degeneracy of the limb. He was a pleasant enough consultant but his advice was not suitable for my condition. I think it is too easy to say an over riding problem is hyperalgesia when osteoarthritis is at such a serious level. I now have a better opioid and take less of it and it works to greater effect. I felt I was thrown into a diagnosis from recent hyperalgesia research and not treated as an individual.
