Dr McKeogh - and the splendid team he leads so well- implanted a pacemaker in me today. A really approachable human being with excellent surgical skills, who listens, explains well and is constantly checking how you feel. And any team reflects the quality and qualities of a leader,. Dr McKeogh leads from the middle as part of the team, and involves everyone in the process and it has the hallmark of a great team… different roles all working together with their own skills to make it work. The sort of man you’d like to have a pint of porter with.

I was under the care of Dr McKeogh at Bronglais Hospital Aberystwyth. Thank God for men like this. I was impressed for a number of reasons - his thorough examination of and clear communication with the patient, truthful analysis of the particular and general situation and a reassuring outline of the way forward. As a teacher myself I was impressed also with the teaching methods he employed for his accompanying team. I concluded he was a man of candour, humour and efficiency, with a style that put the patient at ease. If the NHS system is weak it is certainly not the fault of the excellent medical staff. If the politicians are not as able as the consultants then at least they should take advice from people who know what they are doing - whatever it takes. Let's have well equipped facilities in mid Wales and well paid staff before the money is wasted on other stuff.

In the past 2 years I have had no access to my own GP. Such is the state of our NHS. So I am deeply grateful for the appointments I have had with Dr McKeogh. He has seen me on three occasions this year. He is thorough, attentive and thank goodness for him! He is a brilliant and dedicated Doctor.

I cannot praise Dr McKeogh enough. He has been excellent with my care both before and after Open Heart Surgery. He was very precise with all information that he gave me. Words cannot do him justice. Excellent care received.

Dr McKeogh saw my partner in his Cardiology clinic at Bronglais after a GP referral. The appointment was within a month of the original referral and, at that appointment, a further appointment was made for my partner to have a Catheter Angiogram at the Medical Day Unit in West Wales General Hospital (Glangwili). We were given a choice of three dates, all within a month and opted for the middle slot, less than two weeks after the consultation. This followed an explanation of several possible diagnostic options and their pros and cons. Although not a clinician myself I have worked in the healthcare field and have had first hand experience of many doctors and consultants. I have to say, I was very impressed with Dr McKeogh. His explanation of the procedure was precise and complete and he not only explained the procedure but all the possible risks and their implications. When you are told that the procedure has a slight risk (1 in 1000) of triggering a heart attack or a stroke you do initially have one or two reservations but, as he quite rightly pointed out, where better to have that happen than on the table with a cardiologist and his team in attendance rather than at home. an hour away from the nearest hospital. The procedure went very smoothly with no complications and, as it turns out, it would appear that her ongoing chest pains are most definitely not cardiac in origin. In Dr McKeogh's words, "for someone of your age with a twenty year history of diabetes, you have a 'disgustingly healthy' heart!" No blinding with science or baffling with bull****, Dr McKeogh explains clearly, succinctly and in language you can understand, discusses all the issues and puts your mind completely at ease. Given the choice of a minimally invasive procedure (with almost no risk at all) but possibly ambiguous results or the recommended course of action with a slightly higher risk but clear and almost instant results, we took his advice and opted for the angiogram. We needn't have worried. Dr McKeogh and all his support team at the MDU were absolutely first class and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others. It is back to the GP again for ongoing investigation into the chest pains, but with Dr McKeogh's reassurance that it is not at all heart-related, that is a huge worry lifted from her mind.
