I was referred to Dr Roy for an ADHD assessment and I was very unhappy with the whole experience. Firstly, I was only given the copious amounts of plagiarised questionnaires the day prior to my assessment (this should have been sent well in advance to allow me time to fill them in). On our second online meeting I was to fill in even more questionnaires that had taken me 3-4 days to complete and when we spoke, he did not mention them once. I doubt he even looked at them. I felt that as soon as I said I was a mum and was really struggling that THAT was the answer and nothing else should be addressed. He said I had ADHD traits but not enough to diagnose. I asked why he hadn’t touched on the questionnaires I filled out and that I believe that I have something I need help with and asked to explore further as I need help. I even provided a mental health diary. He replied saying that he had done his job and didn’t address any of the aforementioned. I was merely a mum that needed organisational help and was sent links on how to be organised and referred to an anxiety clinic. I have never felt so insulted and defeated in all my life. Dr Roy is in a role which should require a degree of compassion and understanding, unfortunately he does not possess either of these. He should be working with computers, not people. When I have the strength to go back to my gp, I will be asking for another referral with a different Dr.

This doctor arranged an appointment for me without me requesting it. He contradicted sensible people management skills. He could not explain his diagnosis or lack thereoff.

Hello I was referred by my gp to meet a psychiatrist to help with my depression at Hairmyres hospital in south Lanarkshire. I prepared for this meeting to get the best from it by writing down my symptoms with bullet points about my depression. As you know It can be hard to explain all the things in the one meeting. Firstly the Doctor in question Dr Roy who works out of Hair my research hospital had bad communication skills barely looked at me even when asking questions. He didn't know which medicine I was currently on he got it wrong he said i was currently on a previous medication. Then it came he asked me what are my symptoms Yes I had prepared for this I said iv wrote it all down to show you at which point he said abruptly "just tell me I don't want to read it" Hang on a minute surely he has studied text books and you read the symptoms and with your training you cross reference it and advise the patient what's the best course of medication to take. So that wasn't a good start. Next I start telling him verbally my symptoms about how the medication iam on has increased my heart rate dramatically and I can't sleep because it's pumping away so fast I can feel it. Nope he tells me iv got anxiety that's the reason. So far he hasn't been listening to me. He tells me I am not suffering from depression but anxiety it's 2 sides of the same coin. Right....... so I explained once more iam.not suffering from anxiety it's this medicine that has sped my heart up and iam here for help with my depression tiredness lack of energy sleeping all the time feeling flat. He didn't want to know he knew better what my symptoms were even though I disagreed with him and told him no I don't have anxiety. It goes to show that all training and high salary but don't have the basic concept of listening and making eye contact with your patient no empathy.there was no getting to know how the patient was feeling. You have to be assertive with him otherwise he will steer you down the wrong road.
