My Experience of this lady is I would not trust her as she seems to have made up her mind before she even looks at you she has never examined me. She refused to listen to me and walked away when I asked a question, his. has happened twice that is walking away without answering a question. She does nether looks you in the eye while talking to you On the last time she visited me she said I was medically fit and that she was telling the desk to organise my discharge paperwork. When the the sister came round with my medication I said to her this would be the last time she would be dispensing my medication, she was caught completely off balance as she had read my notes and there was no mention of discharge and the sister said I would not be going anywhere as I was in a not in a fit condition to go out. I have just been told I am going for a kidney scan Who authorised it Dr Maguire so if I had gone home yesterday when she said I was fit to go home why 15 hours later she asks for a scan no explanation of why I now need it

I have been under the care of Dr Deirdre Maguire for over a year, and following the reviews below I felt I had to share my experience. Admittedly, I felt Dr Maguire was 'cold' during our first few appointments, and felt that she didn't know how to respond when I was upset. However, although she may struggle with the people-skills aspect, she is very trustworthy and I have no doubts at all about her competency. The tests which she organised were very thorough, and my treatment plan has made a huge difference to my quality of life.

The very first time I met Doctor Maguire I was utterly, completely shocked at the entire lack of her bedside manner, understanding, listening abilities, how much she clearly didn’t want to help and most importantly, how quick she was to judge me especially after not allowing me to talk. After upsetting me to the point of leaving me in tears she smirked and walked out of the room with a disgusting smug look on her face. May I again point out that this was only the first time that I had the displeasure of meeting her. Between now and then I have often spoken to staff about her mannerisms, unsurprisingly none of them were shocked and (I won’t write the exact words as I don’t want this to not be published because of my language) also some mentioned their personal opinions of the woman and how she treats them as staff so I was not to expect anything else. Some more professional members of staff raised their eyebrows, widened their eyes and quickly changed the subject. I managed to stay away from seeing her as a doctor for a few weeks but as she changed rolls (rotation consultancy and her being an admissions “consultant” for a while) I saw her a few more times. Unfortunately each time was worse. It was literally her way or the highway or even worse if she didn’t know the answer she would refer to the psychs. Even after speaking to them if she didn’t like their outcome then she’d ask for a second opinion. This has happened several times to me and have seen it happen to other patients. She isn’t quiet when talking and giving her opinion to nurses and other doctors and definitely doesn’t sugar coat anything. Which can be and was very upsetting to overhear especially as when I confronted her; she couldn’t have cared less. I wish she wasn't involved in any of my care and in my opinion she isn’t educated enough to remain on her high horse making hurtful comments. My advice? Ask for a second opinion and DO NOT be afraid to speak your mind. Good luck, you’ll need it.

The first time I saw Dr Maguire it was so bad I cried when I came away. Her manner was hard to believe. I justified it in my own mind that we all have “off days”. My second visit, a year later, was just the same. I was disgusted by the “advice” which was plainly incorrect. From the moment she called me in her manner was frosty, uncaring and disinterested. I have over 25 years’ experience in the NHS working with surgeons, fabulous physicians and the occasional professor. I have never encountered anybody so rude. When one isn’t feeling well a good bedside manner can be medicine in itself. Dr Maguire would benefit from further training in everyday decency. A quiet word from the Medical Director would be a good idea.

My elderly mother having waited for months in agony for an appointment was treated extremely poorly by this consultant. She was extremely cold, uncaring, uninterested. Her etiquette was disgusting. In the 40 years of visiting Harrogate hospital she has had wonderful treatment and this consultant had the worst manner she has ever experienced. I was told my mother I would see if I could find any information on this consultant and I was extremely interested to see what the previous reviewer had put.
