Dr Majumdar is from my experience excellent in every way, and I can't recommend him enough. Both technically but also his 'bedside manner' - how he listens and discusses your questions and requests - really outstanding. I was referred for urgent colonoscopy by my GP and my original consultation with Dr Majumdar was very reassuring and put me at ease for the inevitable colonoscopy which I was quite apprehensive about. Having had a gastroscopy a decade ago, which was quite to very unpleasant, I was expecting the colonoscopy to be worse. In fact, in the hands of Dr Majumdar, it was a breeze and I would not be in the slightest bit worried if I had to have it again tomorrow (with him that is). I believe Dr Majumdar is technically very skilled in how he manipulates the scope (the tube), because despite having no sedation and the minimum pain relief, I felt no more than a few seconds of slight 'trapped wind' discomfort 2 or 3 times during the procedure. He seems to know how to make the camera go where he needs without having to push or pull much, making for a far more comfortable experience than many I have read about. The camera seems to just magically drift to where it needs to be and you hardly feel it at all. Since I wanted to see and remember what was going on in my bowel if there was a problem, I asked him if I could go without sedation and just a touch of pain relief. We discussed it without rushing and he was absolutely happy to accommodate my request. He advised me and I went with his advise which was to be cannulated and go with a very small dose of pain killer, no sedation, and he would keep the other options available if I asked for them. He explained how quickly they would act etc - took me through it all. It went perfectly and I am very glad I took this option. I felt nothing from the small dose of pain killer, so I don't think it made much difference - I think his technique was what made the procedure so easy. I would do it again with no pain relief without worry. He talked me through the whole procedure as it happened, showed me some areas of my bowel which have diverticula on the monitor, showed me my caceum and villi of the small bowel, explained everything he was seeing and doing in detail and I think enjoys helping patients understand it all. After the appointment I wanted to have the follow up scan at a different facility with a more advanced scanner than my local hospital, which he was perfectly happy to arrange for me. During the follow up appointment he spent far longer than my appointment time answering my questions, even about incidental matters which I had seen on the scan. He is never rushed, considers your understanding level when answering questions and is happy to go into detail. So at the end of the day if you need a colonoscopy and you are either apprehensive about it, or you want to be confident you're in good hands, I strongly recommend him. If I ever need any endoscopy again I will certainly go back to him. And if you want a doctor who listens to what you say, accommodates your preferences, explains everything in as much detail as you like, and has an excellent way of relating to you as a patient, once again I can not recommend him highly enough.
