I’m afraid to say that my experience with Dr Bloomfield was clearly very different the reviews above.
I spent about a week trying to get my mindset back on track after what myself and my mother could only describe as a traumatic appointment.
He was dismissive, rude, disrespectful, and rushed me on very big decisions that I had only just been given the information on.
One lovely quote to pull out included “you can’t get side effects if you’re dead”, in response to my concerns around highly likely life long serious side effects from a newly trialled medicine that I was being asked to consider.
It was also implied, again, because I wanted time to consider this new treatment, that my priority, as a mother of two, was clearly not survival - which is obviously absolutely not true and I found offensive.
I’m sure Dr Bloomfield is good at what he does, but he has no bedside manner and I will not be seeing him again for this reason.
If you are someone who would like a sympathetic and respectful oncologist who will be open to you having questions and any iota of self agency within your own treatment plan, then I would say look elsewhere.
Everyone else I’ve seen so far in the area however has been wonderful
Mr Bloomfield and his breast nurse, Maria were so kind to me when I visited them recently. He listened to my concerns and many questions without making me feel I was wasting his time, although for sure many ladies probably ask similar questions. He explained in detail what in his opinion would be the best treatment for me going forward, but explained that nothing was set in concrete and could always be adjusted at any time if considered necessary. Both me and my husband felt very comfortable with Mr Bloomfield which at such a scarey time is very important.
I am so lucky that I have Dr. David Bloomfield as my consultant at such a frightening time. He has brilliant staff working together with him at Brighton and Eastbourne.
He listens, remembers and then checks when he see/talks to you next. Thank you NHS for such a wonderful, caring Consultant and thank you Dr. Bloomfield for having such a wealth of knowledge to help so many people.
I so wish this lovely Dr was at Worthing Hospital. Three yrs ago after receiving bad news he helped me so much with his caring manner and always had time to listen . Also had empathy .
Now back with more bad news and I just don’t feel confident with the oncology dept and feel I’m being hurried .
