Dr Stephenson is a careful listener and takes you seriously, whatever the issue. She has always been welcoming and ready to help. She looks at you and observes, as opposed to some doctors who address the computer screen rather than the patient. She does not prescribe unnecessarily and will often make useful practical self-help suggestions. When a complaint needs further investigation and referral on, she acts quickly and appropriately. It has been very helpful to me that she is also a qualified acupuncturist as she understands and sees the relevance of complementary medicine and has always fully supported me in my wish to find non-allopathic ways of treating medical an psychological problems which arise in the course of normal life stages. This was also true of her predecessor, Dr Diana Ferguson, who was trained in homeopathy as well as conventional medicine. Dr Stephenson is adept at recognising the inter-relationship between body and mind and does not, unlike many other doctors, prefer to split the mind from the body and treat them as a collection of parts, but helps the patient to see the whole body-mind issues and treat them in context. There should be more GPs like these two women doctors who have helped me enormously over the years.
