Professor Charlotte Lawthom in my opinion is second to none, she has cared for my daughter for many years and a she is complex, had presented with many challenges. Professor Lawthom is very approachable, she listens and always appears to care. I have the utmost respect for her

I was fortunate to been under the care of Professor Lawthom last year whilst suffering from Guillan-Barre syndrome- a rare condition affecting the nervous system which is difficult to diagnose. The treatment I received was exceptional. Professor Lawthom could not have more approachable and her support contributed greatly to my recovery.

I know Charlotte Lawthom now for quite a few years. She is very interested in my condition, which is a rare muscle disease called Periodic Paralysis. I have to mention that her main interest areas are epilepsy and MS. PP can actually look like epilepsy and is often misdiagnosed like that which is understandable. What I like about her is that she will study about it. She has referred me to a neuromuscular specialist in London and I have still contact with her. Recently she is supporting me with an IPFR to get my specialist medicines sorted. I would certainly recommend her. She has got experience and is easy approachable. Be aware that there is a shortage of neurologists in the UK, which might cause a longer wait. My experience is that you are always able to see one in a real emergency situation.

I met with this doctor a few years ago at the Royal Gwent in Newport, Wales. I was anxious about this appointment and was a bit agitated when my appointment was late. Rather than try to calm me down and reassure me that everything will be okay, she went on the defensive telling me she didn’t want to hear my woes and to tell her why I was referred to her. I was that upset that I left the room. She then wrote to my GP saying inaccurate things about me and refused to treat me. I saw a neurologist privately who was just as bad (I think they knew each other). I was referred to the epilepsy clinic in Cardiff but they said I had to see someone in the Royal Gwent despite being refused previously and my GP making this clear. Because of her, I was without a neurologist for almost 2 years. She treated me with absolute contempt when I was in a vulnerable state and was experiencing stroke like symptoms when experiencing partial seizures. I wish I filed a complaint against this doctor because her conduct that day was unacceptable. I have also developed PTSD from this appointment and have to have a chaperone attend the appointment with me.
