In general, making more effort to explain procedures, diagnosis and treatment would be more effective. It would be reassuring to have better continuity between appointments e.g. re-read the patients notes prior to the follow-up appointment. Also the speed of communicating results and arranging follow-up could be improved- everyone gets anxious waiting for test results so it seems obvious to minimise that wait. Timekeeping could have been better. And, once running late, it would be better not to skip on time taken with the patient. Schedule more realistic appointment times or build in catch up time rather than rush a procedure or consultation in an effort to fit everything in. Better to actually listen to a patient than just to appear to be listening- actually listening would reduce the appearance of arrogance, as would improving on the points above. In general, busyness is no excuse for making a patient feel like they are on a conveyor belt. This applies to both NHS and private practice.
