Dr Antonia Brooke has been my consultant since 2011. I was referred for blood pressure problems which were not being controlled by normal medication, and she suspected that something adrenal was causing the problem, and, I was diagnosed with four bi-lateral adrenal adenomas, which although non cancerous, were 'active' to some extent. This was diagnosed as Conn's Syndrome. This was a lengthy procedure involving adjustments of medication to create the right conditions. Dr Brooke referred me to Professor Will Drake at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London where an exploratory procedure determined that the single adenoma on my right adrenal gland was the 'active' one, and Barts later performed an operation in 2019 to remove that adrenal gland. My blood pressure lowered, and although I am still monitored and have some medication, I am back to normal. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Brooke's professionalism and dedication to providing me with not only the correct and difficult diagnosis of my condition, but the ongoing treatment and constant care relating to my condition over the years, and I am very, very pleased to be able to have this opportunity to say how much I admire and respect her. She has constantly liaised with my GP's and ensured that I am on the correct medication and dosage for my condition at the time. She has always immediately replied personally to any concerns that I have had, and still monitors my condition to ensure that everything is as it should be. Recently (2022) my blood pressure showed signs of increasing again, and she immediately (within days) arranged the necessary tests to determine the situation. Dr Brooke is now: Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer (University of Exeter) Clinical Lead Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Chair of Specialist Advisory Committee (Endocrinology and Diabetes) but still very much my consultant for this condition, and in whom I have complete and utter trust and confidence - something for which I am very, very grateful.
