Dr Mc Carthy is not as forthcoming with all the information you need at the start of the process. He treated my Grand daughter and while very personable and clinically good, he just doesn't get the fact that all information related to the patient should be given as a right, not as he seems to think, at his discretion. More Doctors need to understand that they are not gods but people employed to provide safe, compassionate and professional care to their patients. Because of the lack of factual information at the start of the process and making various generalistic statements , the experience for our family was much more frightening that it needed to be. Any cancer in children is extremely frightening but when tests aren't done on time and information isn't given in a timely fashion, then it just makes it worse. Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children should make sure they talk to parents about how to fit the service around their lives, rather than how it is now were the patient has to fit into the Drs and services needs.
