Written by a patient at Whipps Cross University Hospital
23rd June 2016

In the past 6-9 months I have been a regular patient at the Sawyerr Unit Whipps Cross for gastroscopy and treatment of my condition . From the moment I am greeted by the receptionists I feel safe and respected. My pre op exam is conducted well by nurses, and always the Consultant meets me explains and consent from signed . Its what happens when I reach the treatment room I am so impressed and grateful. The team care, explain ,look after my mouth area so well whilst the Consultant is studying what the camera reveals. The sedation works so well and what I also so appreciate my well being as a patient is regularly checked Are you OK? then my first name I can only communicate with thumbs up ( or down) But those questions communicate care and concern. Post op I am given time to recover, then the best cup of tea ( and biscuits) in the world !! This week given me by a Volunteer . I did thank her Again the care continues I am given a discharge letter explaining the procedure, I am given written advice on the next 24 hours and my family are contacted by phone to collect me I return to the waiting room where some hours earlier I booked in. I so appreciate this post op care as much as the treatment room expertise. Whilst waiting this week I had a long conversation with a patient undergoing for the first time this endoscopy . I was abler to explain the compassionate professionalism he would encounter when he was pushed into the Treatment area Thank you Whipps Thank you Doctors and Nurses Keep it going Your communication and clinical skills combine to make me feel safe secure and at peace. Thank you for this caring service. NHS at its best
