Dr Simpson registered me when I joined his practice in 2001. I have recently had cause to go back over my clinical records and have discovered that although he registered that my previous doctor had put in my notes that I had a possible genetic condition which means I can’t control my cholesterol level and should be monitored with annual blood tests, he failed to tell me of this. I took myself for blood tests twice over the next four years and on both occasions Dr Simpson gave me the results. Despite having a high reading, he still failed to explain the possible condition to me or recommend that I go on medication to help. On the last occasion he actually gave me the ratio figure rather than the total cholesterol figure which led me to believe, wrongly, that I had got my cholesterol under control. Still he did not recommend annual tests. Consequently I have ended up at an early age needing intervention. Even when I was suffering with angina and had been diagnosed with two significant blockages in my heart, Dr Simpson just kept saying ‘everything will be alright’ and did not mention the condition or the possible consequences for my children. I had to learn all about it from Dr Google!! When one of my sons received a high cholesterol reading from Dr Simpson, despite knowing the family background, he told him that his results were normal and nothing to worry about. My son has now had a confirmed diagnosis of having the same condition as me and needs to be on medication to help him. Had we listened to Dr Simpson he could well have run out on a rugby pitch in a few years time and keeled over with a heart attack! Consequently I have absolutely no faith in this doctor and would highly recommend seeing anyone else but him!
