Dr. Andrew Holman and a small number of other Newgate Street Doctors are wonderful doctors, and I would also add Dr. Poornima Prasad and Dr. James Gray , there are some excellent nurses and excellent nurse/practitioners too I could mention a number of them here. Unfortunately we now have the situation where the doctors whom we really needed to understand where we are at, and who know us well- are lost to us by this new polyclinic system. It was in the press that now that polyclinics are here with the general public all complaining of them, that the population is 13% more likely to be admitted to hospital yearly. The psychological NEED of the general public is to feel you are committed to the care of at least one doctor who you feel knows you well. This redesigning of the wheel has caused endless unnecessary build ups of pain and suffering and no wonder everyone just about - is bitterly complaining of this. Newgate Medical Group as a whole pulled out all the stops to give the COVID injections in our very over challenged town. There are many great aspects to the care at this Practice, but unless the structure returns to its previous smooth action, many more people will unnecessarily feel like 'cogs' lost in meaningless, mechanical system of non - connection.

If it wasn't for Dr Holman Newgate Medical Centre should be closed.

Despite my low rating of the practice and the building I find Dr Holman very good kind and caring.

This practice provides a thorough and all round care for elderly people. I have a number of chronic conditions such as asthma, type 2 diabetes and thyroid problems. I am regularly reminded to attend clinics to appraise my conditions and offered every type of modern help, support and medication. For consultations of a personal nature I usually manage to get an appointment with my designated practitioner in whom I have every confidence. In an emergency situation an appointment at short notice is almost always offered with either a practice nurse or doctor, not necessarily one's designated doctor but someone. The practice nursing staff are efficient, knowledgeable and supportive. One thing I think could be improved deals with communication. I feel that more phone lines would be of benefit. Sometimes you cannot get an answer for hours. I phone in my repeat prescriptions and often give up because the line is engaged, permanently it would seem on some occasions. Also I have found the web site for repeat prescriptions, which I have tried, is not reliable. However on the whole I feel the practice is caring and does have good systems to promote the welfare of the patients.
