As a Falklands veteran, I have suffered from the after effects of that war for many years. Dr Skarsden has been one of the only three health professionals who in my opinion fully understood the fall out from war. The man is a saint and will not play into or give in to those that want pandering. He tells it as it is and in that respect I can imagine people coming away having not got the soft soap treatment. I love the guy and he should be knighted.

Dr Skarsten has been extremely helpful to me in treating my profound Attention Deficit Disorder. I have found him kind, responsive, responsible, knowledgeable and consistent. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

This man was rude aggressive totally into his own needs and feelings, he treated me like I was some monster and told me that people like me can usually be found in Broadmore or Rampton. He does not like his patients to express their own views. After struggling for over 20 years with food issues his idea of a caring response to my asking for help was to tell me that as I did not have learning problems, he could tell by the size of me I clearly did not have a problem eating he could not see what the issue was. This was after giving me a lecture on the health risks of metabolism and weight gain in my 1st appointment with him. This highly regarded clinician stated to me That my previous psychiatrist Dr Eastwood was an old fashioned Dr into highly medicating his patients and he was having to work hard trying to sort out the problems he'd been left with. He asked me if I had seen Dr Griffith when i replied yes he said he was exactly like Dr Eastwood into medicating patients. As both of these Drs have retired they have no opportunity to address these comments on their professional integrity. So no I will not be leaving a positive statement about this man, as far as I am concerned he is not fit to practice medicine.

A top notch, no nonsense mental health professional. Dr Skarsten is open, honest and cuts to the chase. He is kind and caring. As a patient with complex needs, he addressed each one and discussed all options with me. He has treated me as a complete individual. The entire approach that he adopted has been holistic and well balanced. Taking into account the physical health problems that I have, a long history of mental illness, a colourful background and some undeniable personality quirks, he is evidently an experienced and well versed psychiatrist. I have left his office several times strong in the belief that he has done his utmost not only to keep me safe but also to provide me with the tools I have needed to get through some of the most difficult times of my life. Selfishly, I am so pleased that he has not been scooped up by academia and that he continues to work in rural areas where quality mental health care is difficult to access. The work he does with the limited resources available is remarkable. Dont waste his time and when you really his, he will give it to you.
