Written by a NHS patient at Ninewells Hospital
26th March 2021

Dr Mooney unfortunately was my consultant when admitted to ninewells hospital, Dundee on Wed 24th March. I was admitted by my gp with ongoing UTI, nausea, shaking and generally very unwell. Junior doctors and nurses were exceptional with their care and diagnosis. The minute I met my consultant I felt like he wanted me to leave ASAP. Saying you look well, bloods were ok, there are two choices either go home tonight or you can have some IV antibiotics. Choice was mine. I decided I needed the antibiotics as that what my GP wanted. I have a stoma and pills just go through the stoma quickly. Next morning the consultant appeared asking how I was. I replied I felt worse, pains and dizziness, as I came in with. His reply was I know you don’t feel well but you will be better at home with the antibiotics you were on before. So I will discharge you. I still told him I did not feel well and as I was having these infections about every three weeks, what should I do. He said you would just have to be referred to come in again. I sensed from the beginning that I was to be rushed out, maybe figures have to be kept down in the short stay medical unit, I don’t know. I have been told that this ward has wonderful consultants but there is one exception.
