My first dealings with Professor Gatrad were when my GP referred my daughter to him several years ago.It was a very tense time for us, having a child with a serious medical problem, but I remember how caring and compassionate Professor Gatrad was.He kept us very well informed at all times and very much involved in her treatment. There were times when we needed more information and Professor Gatrad was easily accessible, he would always ring us back usually within a few hours of leaving a message with his secretary. The regular appointments and treatment received by my daughter, helped her condition to improve to such an extent that she was able to attend school. Over the years my daughters health has improved greatly and the ongoing support and care we have received from Professor Gatrad has been truly amazing. We could never ever thank Professor Gatrad enough for what he has done for us.He is a truly superb doctor who genuinely makes time for his patients and is sincere in his care and compassion. A rare commodity these days.

I have been fortunate to have been both a student and a colleague of Professor Gatrad. As a student,I have seen Professor Gatrad's passion for Pediatric Medicine. He has taught me in a manner that is truly rare in this day and age in that he doesn't just lecture, he has the ability to 'draw' in and involve the student at all levels. He challenges our knowledge whilst keeping the teaching very informative and incredibly memorable. Having also been taught during Professor Gatrad's clinics, I feel privileged to have been involved in the patients assessment and treatment. Between each patient, Professor Gatrad took time to question me and again took this opportunity to pass on valuable knowledge.I have never come across such a sincere Doctor who goes out of his way over and beyond the call of duty. The approach of Professor Gatrad to his patients is extremely gentle, he explains and answers the patients' questions at a level they can clearly understand. I am now a fully trained medic, having had Professor Gatrad as a mentor over several years.I feel indebted to him and the profound respect I have for this amazing doctor will always continue to grow and I know there is no one like him in the entire pediatric department. My sincerest gratitude, always.

Dr Gatrad had a great manner with my 20 month old son. I found him friendly and very caring, he also had time to discuss and explain issues carefully.

Since working in clinic I have seen Professor Gatrad suggest to his patients to leave feedback on this site based on the care they received. Although I am not a patient I thought it would be appropriate to provide feedback from a perspective of someone that has been in clinic and in teaching with him several times. Professor Gatrad is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. I appreciate the fact that he has, over the last several weeks, taken the time to explain things to me. He did this in a manner that was not intimidating, but still in such a way as to challenge me. He has shown me a number of skills that no textbook could teach. One simple thing I recall from the very beginning of my training with him was the way he explained things to patients. He broke each case down into simple terms and then summarized with the patient at the end of the consult so they were clear on the matter. I am from America and unfortunately time with patients is limited. Because of this it is often difficult to take the time to make sure the patient is clear on the diagnosis, treatment and any other components that are pertinent. I will definitely make an effort to take even a few minutes to summarize with my patients and ensure they understand everything before they leave. I truly am fortunate to have spent a few weeks as his student and know that I will be a much better Physician Assistant because of it!

My son has been under the care of Prof. Gatrad for a number of years now (off and on). We have always found him to be very patient, informative, easy to talk to and professional. We have never been kept waiting and yet, we have never been rushed for the sake of the next appointment. Prof. Gatrad has talked to my son and involved him in the consultation process. Overall, we have been very happy with the care that Prof. Gatrad has provided for our son.
