It is hard to find enough superlatives to describe my gratitude for the treatment I have received from Mr Puttur, at the Maxillo-Facial Department of Peterborough Hospital. I have suffered from osteomyelitis in my right jaw for over 25 years, and have been under the care of Mr Puttur for the best part of a decade, since I moved from London. During this time, Mr Puttur has treated me with the utmost care and compassion, acknowledging the complexity and pain of my plight, and taking every opportunity to engage me in every aspect of the nature of, and changes in, the progress of the issues with my jaw. He has taken a very caring and holistic approach to my situation, showing understanding for the fact that I have been sole carer of my severely disabled brother since our mother passed away recently, yet gently encouraging me to accept the need to look after myself as well, despite these difficult circumstances. When it became clear that my jaw had fused, causing lack of mobility and discomfort, he talked me through all the options that could assist me in regaining mobility, and undertook a very complex and multifaceted operation – a condylectomy, eminectomy and temporalizing interposition. I have nothing but admiration for Mr Puttur for both his expertise and skills as a surgeon, and his humility, care and concern as a doctor. The procedure(s) he undertook to improve my quality of life were astounding (as was his stitching proficiency!) As soon as I recovered from the anaesthetic post-op, and exhibited my ability to raise my eyebrows, move my nose and smile, it was clear that the operation had been a huge success. Six months on, and my mobility has improved, as has my oral hygiene, and my ability to eat again (and yawn). Life has improved in so many ways. I am aware that there are only a few surgeons in the UK able to carry out such procedures, and perhaps fewer willing to undertake the risk. I am immensely grateful to Mr Puttur for his willingness to do so, and do it so skilfully. He is an asset to the NHS, to Peterborough Hospital, and to his grateful patients who have had the good fortune to be under his care.

Mr Puttur undertook my daughter's complex extractions under general anaesthetic at Peterborough Hospital - 5 teeth in total with one embedded in the lower jaw. He explained in detail what the procedure involved and what the risks were. He was honest and told us where his concerns were and that he would abandon the procedure if he thought the risk of jaw fracture and nerve damage were too great. After the procedure, he spoke with me at length while my daughter was in recovery about how it went (excellently!) and what to expect when I saw her. I couldn't be more delighted with his level of care and support, but more importantly, his work was skilful and precise - very little swelling, neat stitches and perfect extractions including the troublesome one in her jaw. Highly recommended. I am adding to the review, I'm the patient. Mr Puttur was really calm and came across as confident the first time I met him in hospital, he explained the whole procedure to me and laid out all the risks. Obviously I had not spoken to him like my mum had when I was in recovery but, after most of the anaesthetic wore off, I realised the swelling was minimal and the stitches from the tooth extracted from my jaw were neat and very small. I would definitely recommend Mr Puttur, you would be in very safe hands.
