Their thoughts on this doctor: Prof. Bulstrode immediately made me feel at ease by his cheerful and empathetic bedside manner. He listened carefully to what I had to say and clarified where required to ensure he had the full picture. In addition, he very expertly guided the student, who made the initial diagnosis, into explaining her thoughts and how she had reached her conclusion, without causing her any embarrasment, either in correcting or praising her whatsoever. In reaching a decision as to treat my problem, he explained carefully to me in language that I could understand! Prof. Bulstrode demonstrated a very caring attitude to me and has rare qualities that the NHS should be very proud of.

Their thoughts on this doctor: Prof Bulstrode did a fantastic job sewing up my chin. It is now healing well with a very small neat scar remaining. I was also impressed with how well he listened to me and followed up on what I said.

Their thoughts on this doctor: Professor Bulstrode started by introducing himself and disinfecting his hands. These two things immediately instill confidence into a patient. As well as explaining in detail what we were seeing on the X-ray he also palpated the injured area to ascertain for himself where I was feeling the pain and the level of pain. To my surprise he brought up on screen an MRI scan that had been taken 3 years previously, of an adjacent area, and linked problems there with his diagnosis of the present injury. He took time and care to explain clearly his findings relating to this very painful acromio-clavicular joint (following a fall) and a possible rotator cuff tear which could not be assessed immediately because of the high level of pain. He further explained why a surgical repair would probably not be considered due to my age group having an inadequate blood supply to sustain such a repair. He made serious suggestions for possible referrals to other specialists by my GP which might result in surgical intervention available now, but not 3 years ago, relating to the condition identified by the MRI scan. All this he put in an open letter to my GP which he said I should read before making my making an appointment with my GP. This was all done there and then by him. Finally he took further time to discuss and advise more generally on my future NHS care. At no time had there been any rush or hurry. This consultation with Professor Bulstrode was of the highest possible standard.

Their thoughts on this doctor: Suffered sciatica for last month. Been off work for 2 weeks with excruciating pain down left leg. Not knowing what is causing the pain, not having any treatment and taking pain killers which only provide partial relief is very concerning. Saw Professor Bulstrode at the JR A&E. He was very personable, capable and reassuring. He made a very thorough assessment and gave sound advice. The advice he gave was based on the best possible prognosis but he also made me feel that I could have a say in my own recovery. Professor Bulstrode gave lots of information to help me understand my condition and how it would progress. He has given me the confidence to follow his advice, be patient and resort to surgery as a last resort.
